I'm Dr Jerry Thompson. I am now retired from general practice (from July 2023) after working as a GP for four decades. This means I am no longer doing consultations but I hope I may still be able to help. During my time in general practice I wrote many leaflets on common (and sometimes uncommon) diseases. Patients often found these useful. These are now on my website. I believe people nearly always get better results (and sometimes spectacularly better) results if they use an integrated approach that includes diet, nutrition and sometimes removing toxicity (an example would be reversal of type 2 diabetes on a low carb diet). These leaflets incorporate this way of thinking. Sadly, patients rarely receive this kind of help in consultations with time-poor NHS doctors who have had little training in nutrition.

When I started working in general practice, I found that despite having qualifications in both general medicine and general practice, there were many patients and many diseases where conventional medicine had little to offer. I started looking for answers. Since then, I’ve studied many fields of medicine, particularly ecological medicine, and developed an interest in people who have got better against the odds. This led to my book Curing the Incurable. As I learned more I found I could help more people. I tried to integrate these methods into general practice and my leaflets reflect this holistic approach. I still hear from many patients who say mainstream medicine has been unable to help them. Many don't know where to turn. They often ask who can help them. I would suggest the practitioner list from the British Society of Ecological Medicine (BSEM) is a good starting place. Practitioners from Natural Health Worldwide and those with training in functional medicine may also be able to help.
